I had to search a bit about a possible solution and run some tests. I got plone.jsonapi.routes running with Plone 5.0.3 and created an instance on my TDF-VM. It's up and running at http://vm141.documentfoundation.org:9201/liboexttempsite/ now. It's possible to create a search within the site using the URL: http://vm141.documentfoundation.org:9201/liboexttempsite/@@API/plone/api/1.0/search. But you'll need permissions to do so. There is a documentation for jsonapi.routes available at https://plonejsonapiroutes.readthedocs.org/en/latest/index.html I could create an account on the new instance for you. Please ping me. FYI: the extensions part of the site got already an event message tool that could send emails with information about new extension releases. This could be used to implement an update service for extensions in LibreOffice.
