Hi :)
It is just that there appears to be a warning in the announcement
"NOTE: This build is in a release configuration and _will_ replace your
existing LibreOffice install on Windows. "
It's about 75% of the way down the announcement and not at all obvious
which is why i didn't notice it at first.

Regards from
Tom :)

Yes, true. Simply running and accepting defaults for a "release"
configured build, like 4.1.0.1 RC1, does impact existing installations.

Main packaging difference between release and dev builds is a change in the
default installation behaviors. Additionally the Tinder Box buildbot
process for daily developmental builds generates only a few of the language
specific help files, while release builds generate the help files for all
supported languages.

Two things are changed for the build process for Windows "release"
installers.

1) the default installation path is set to "C:\Program Files
(x86)\LibreOffice 4\" as opposed to "LibreOfficeDev 4"

2) the resulting Microsoft Installer package sets a configuration varaible
WRITEREGISTRY to true, and that results in program details being recorded
into the Windows Registry database, overwriting any existing settings.

Both aspects can be manipulated using a command line installation--i.e.
msiexec.exe /i--to override the default behavior of the installer, on either
"release" builds or on "developmental" builds. In essence they can be made
to behave the same, to make a developmental build install as a release build
would, or to configure a release build to function like a dev build. And
both can be installed in parallel using the /A Administrative installation.

The Server Install GUI (SI-GUI) is a helpful graphical installer designed to
encapsulate the Windows command line /A Administrative install, and simplify
the process for more users. Details for the tool are here:
