¿Por casualidad se sabe si LibreOffice en Ubuntu tiene soporte para
características Opentype como las ligaduras tipográficas, o esta es una
función no oficialmente implementada?

Hola. Me parece que lo que estás buscando está en el menú
Insertar>Símbolo y desde allí elegís el grupo de caracteres especiales
que necesites.
