En este caso te recomiendo lo que se ha dicho innumerables veces para
solucionar problemas con estas versiones:
Prueba reiniciando el perfil de usuario, a veces soluciona problemas
extraños, difíciles de identificar:

Lo cierto es que con la versión 3.6.1 me solucionó algunos problemas del
tipo que indicas (moría súbitamente al fusionar celdas). Pero otros
problemas nuevos seguían activos. Lo solucioné con la revisión 3.6.2
que rápidamente apareció, por eso mi recomendación.
