después de trastear con esto por un par de días sin llegar a buen puerto
veo que hay un bug [1] reportado en octubre del año pasado al respecto.

Lo que no entiendo entonces es que al intentar reproducirlo yo no haya
sido capaz, debe haber alguna pequeña circunstancia que debe coincidir
también para que eso ocurra.
