Dem muss ich widersprechen. Ich nutze LO Version 4.0.2.1 und Oracle
Java JRE 1.7.0_13. Geht also zusammen.

Letzteres kann ich bestätigen: LO 4.0.1, Windows 7 prof und Java JRE
1.7.0_17 sind kompatibel bzw. keine Probleme beim Ablauf der Programme.
Ihr habt recht. Das Problem ist in Version 4 dann wohl behoben. Ich habe
es mit der eingebetteten HSQL Datenbank probiert, da gibt es keine Probleme.
Doch warum scheitert es dann bei Tom?
Tom, guck bitte mal, ob die JRE in der Systemsteuerung (Alle
Systemsteuerungselemente) in der Rubrik Java Control Panel richtig
auftaucht.
Tom, um welche Datenbank geht es? Um die eingebaute HSQL oder eine andere?
