I have a NA-DVD for Windows and Mac ISO file at 1.9 GB in size, without loosing much of the galleries, clipart, extras, etc., etc.. Those things are part of what makes the NA-DVD "/the NA-DVD/". If you gut it, then it cannot be, should not be, the NA Community DVD since the whole reason for the DVD was to have all these "extras" so a new user did not need to go online to fetch/find them.
I have Windows and Mac installs, but no the portable version.
I kept the dictionaries in tact and the 8 languages for the language/help packs.
If you want to see what the Install and the Documentation pages look like with this version, here are PDF files of the printed pages.

http://libreoffice-na.us/Win-Mac_DVD_-_Install.pdf
If you want to have a copy of the ISO, all I need to do is upload it to Drew's portal. Should not take more that a few hours at my 120 KB/s limits [due to old cables in building].
Ubuntu tells me the size of the NA-DVD [just created a few minutes ago] 3.5.4 Win/Mac .iso file is - 1.9 GB (2006429696 bytes) - in size.
The NA-DVD on the LO CD/DVD servers is - 4.0 GB (4266373120 bytes) - in size according to Ubuntu.
The essence of the NA-DVD is kept for the Win/Mac only version I just made. There still are add-ons and extras galore to "impress" a new user. There are still over 180 dictionary/thesaurus/grammar extensions to impress a new user. There still are the 6 non-English languages for language and help packs. [The Hebrew language market is one that I have been told MSO does not support much, or at least out side of Israel.]
You do not need to GUT the DVD to get the file size down to the 2 GB limit of a Thumb-drive.

Thanks for this, Drew.Yeah - I thought about that - it would require bumping something else

1) Given that LibreOffice IMO really needs to focus on brand building,OSCON has a lot of Mac users, so if it's at all possible to shoehorn on the Mac DMG that would be good.

out of the image, but that is OK with me.
you can see the original set at2) The current libreoffice-na disk includes additional OSS applications,What sort of thing are they? Even Windows add-ons probably aren't essential, and if it makes room for the Mac version all the better.
again I propose to drop everything not for Windows.

I already ditched anything that was not the latest release for windows
from that list.
I agree. It would be better to have NO additional programs and make
room for the Mac distribution.
I agree re dictionaries. And I think we could get along without theThe larger prize, space wise, is in dictionaries and templates, I wouldWhich are you including? I think it's safe to just include US English, and possibly Spanish.

templates. They are a nice to have, but not essential.
Once again, I agree with Simon.Given Jean and I are both attending multiple events (including CLS) I think it would be better not to mention OSCON specifically.I meant if I include some OSCON marks, that is the trademark I'mWhat I would propose is to go ahead and update this cover and the diskHappy to help. Since we're representing TDF, I don't think there will be any trademark problems even if you use the marks with the TDF underline, but I'll wait for the gurus to chip in on that too.

artwork for doing this, not sure what steps (or rather who to ask) for
permission to do so from a trademark perspective - I'm hoping maybe
Simon could weigh in on that - if it seems like a good thing to do, and
I really think it is, the I could work on the artwork today.

3) Documentation - again I would pare what is on the disk down. If there
is a 3.5 guide ready, then drop the older 3.3/3.x docs. DO NOT include
the odt files, only the pdf files.
Agree. Include only the latest, and only PDF. BTW, there is a
complete set of v3.4 guides except for Calc, which will be finished
just too late for this. Hoping to get it done this weekend, but more
realistically next week sometime.
Are you including individual chapter files as well as full books? If
so, drop the chapters to save a bit more space.
Lastly, I'll confirm that Friends of OpenDocument are willing to
contribute to the costs of production and delivery, as Simon
mentioned.
