Thank you for the clarification. I do want to be fair, even in my anger. My apologies to M$ concerning notice of the expiration of XP.

That said, as a typical Windows user, it never occurred to me to go to a Microsoft website to determine the lifecycle for XP. When I bought my computer, it never occurred to me that Windows versions even had expiration dates and there was certainly nothing in the information provided me with the computer to indicate that. Again, not necessarily blaming M$ for the lack of information, just saying I never saw it when purchasing my computer.

By contrast, I obtained Ubuntu by downloading it. That process inherently took me to the 12.04LTS website where I could clearly and easily see Ubuntu's plans for 12.04. This doesn't make the Canonical folks more virtuous than M$, but for my experience, it made for clearer information up front.
