Thanks for responding. I neglected to mention that I've been deleting my user
folder (.libreoffice) from my home folder with every reinstallation attempt;
it has no impact.

I've also logged in as a different user and the behavior is the same, so it
is not tied to the user folder, apparently. 

Running apt-get check reports no broken dependencies. PCLinuxOS does indeed
use this command, as well as Synaptic.

If the menus in my other apps were behaving this way, it would make more
sense; it's very strange that it's limited to LibreOffice.
