[libreoffice-users] adding page numbers automatically

I have tried the help files and also searching around in the writer program without any success. I have created and am adding to a document currently exceeding 800 pages and would like to have the pages show the # of the page on the footer and as each new page is created, automatically add that page. I know other programs can do this but so far am unable to figure it out for LO. Any ideas would be appreciated.  TIA
