I often get .doc files with a text style with a boarder. This is a word
or few words in a box.
The .doc opens in LO without the border around the words.

Is this a feature request or a bug to get import correct. LO has a
paragraph style with a border but that style cannot be applied to just a
few words in a sentence. Is there a way to apply this outline to some
text in LO.

While MSWord can draw a box around a character, neither OOo nor LibO
can. The workaround is to use a frame to enclose the characters you
want to be boxed.
Yes, no background, and anchor to character or as character. That has
been my work around.
But it is one more instance where compatibility fails between MO and LO.
