Hi Dev,

Thank you for doing that. Based on your comments in an earlier email, would I be correct to assume that you performed the review using an Ubuntu system?

It may take me a while to catch up with the comments raised on various chapters and so I have placed a note in the tracking spreadsheet to request that nobody starts a 2nd review of chapters 1 and 2 at the moment.

Regards,

Steve

That's correct, Steve. It is an Ubuntu (20.4.3 LTS) system.

Warm Regards

I'd like to see sqlite added as the first example of an external database.

(needs
verification for macOS and Linux).

Hi flywire,

I'd like to see sqlite added as the first example of an external database.
Text from
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/HowTo/Base/Connect_to_SQLite
(needs
verification for macOS and Linux).

Why should this be the first example? There are databases, which are connected with direct drivers to Base. Sqlite is a database, which could only work with ODBC-connection to Base.

Robert

The mysql example has many options but that makes it complicated as the
first external database example. I agree establishing an ODBC-connection to
Base could be complicated so that was a focus of the instructions. With
macOS and linux considerations it might become complicated too (I can't
test it) or perhaps refer users to mysql for details.

I'll assume a sqlite example is accepted.

Steve, I have added sqlite text to the Ch2 WIP document without detailed
formatting. Can I add BG7302-CreatingADatabase_SF_VN_FW_23Jan2022.odt to
the WIP folder as the basis for comment?

Thanks for drafting the material.

However, please do not put a file with that name in the WIP folder at this stage.

Feel free to put your proposed material in a stand-alone file in the WIP folder, with some different file name that makes it obvious that it is a draft containing new, unreviewed material (and is not just a routine part of our update cycle).

Then we can look at the new text, check if it is appropriate for inclusion and, if so, we can decide if it can be included at this issue.

Steve

Proposed Ch2 sqlite section uploaded.

I reported Bug 144588 Base ODBC connection for Sqlite Inadequately
Documented (https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=144588) and
the first response was to consider contributing to the documentation. I
documented it in the bug, provided a wiki entry, and draft content for the
V7.3 guide. The process is very simple but I don't think the documentation
would get a user through it. I hope it will at least get considered.

It has been pointed out SQLite is only one example of an ODBC connection.
Fair enough the draft might need changing. Try following the documentation
to use it. Anyone.

A bigger issue is trying to follow a changed process that has evolved over
a decade using a primitive mailling list without current documentation.
